Mozart: The Last Decade

on BBC Two England

The second of ten programmes
A Mozart Workshop with Colin Davis who conducts the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House leader John Brown with John Barker (piano and harpsichord) Ubaldo Gardini (Italian coach, Royal Opera House)

A new production of Don Giovanni conducted by Sir Colin Davis opens at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, tomorrow night, launching a three-week Festival of Mozart.

In tonight's programme Sir Colin rehearses duets from Don Giovanni and The Marriage of Figaro to reveal the extraordinary, intuitive insight that gives Mozart's music its special qualities. There are no real villains in the operas - even the bad are lovingly provided with music that shows the passion, and compassion, which Mozart shares with them as fellow human beings.
