Two Players in the Music Market A film report by Trevor Philpott
The concert soloist is possibly the loneliest travelling showman of them all; and at the top end of the scale, probably the best paid. But he has to satisfy the most devoted and most critical audiences. It's a fiercely competitive world, and for every one highly-paid star there are hundreds of devoted musicians who fail to earn even an ordinary living on the concert stage.
This film, made in 1971, compares the working lives of two soloists: Henryk Szeryng is already at the top; Allan Schiller is still in the thick of the struggle for survival.

A series of topical documentaries. The Voyage of Rainbow Warrior '
When the converted Greenpeace trawler sailed out into the North Sea in June this year bound for Iceland, the eyes of all who cared for the preservation of the whale Were on her. For the purpose of this voyage was to touch the conscience of the world and its whaling nations on the eve of the annual conference of the International Whaling Commission.
Thisfilm is a record of the clashes On Iceland, as Rainbow Warrior tried in vain to stop the carnage - falling foul of Icelandic gun-boats and Icelandic law courts. But the voyage seemed to have worked. After years of siding with the whalers, Iceland's crucial vote helped tilt the balance at the rwc. A ban on whaling for most species for an indefinite period was agreed. But was this a success? A closer look at the small print of the agreement shows that Iceland can continue her killing operation.
