The second of five programmes presented by Gordon Honeycombe. In 1828 Samuel George Davey Honeycombe, Gordon's great-grand-father, was born in Devonport. Nothing more is known about him until his marriage in 1856. Why did he keep his early life a secret? Did he have anything to hide?

A 13-part worldwide series Presented by Ronald Eyre 2: Protestant Spirit USA
' When I use the word " Protestant " I don't want to keep reminding myself that in the 16th century Martin Luther disagreed with the Pope. But it's a label and I've come to America with the idea that to the true Protestant all labels, all institutions, are suspect.'
The priest may employ the technique of the huckster, the accompanying choir may be more suited to a nightclub, the window-dressing may often obscure the wares but, as Mr Eyre found, the belief is just as deep-rooted as any he came across in India. (DAILY TELEGRAPH) It was the simple, uncomplicated emotional fervour of a coloured congregation which impressed as being the most sincere. They made it easier to believe that the meek are more likely to inherit the Kingdom of Heaven than the slightly frantic wheeler-dealers trying to buy their way in. (DAILY EXPRESS)

Everybody knows about Kung Fu, Run Run Shaw and Bruce Lee. They probably know less about the young film-makers who are trying to get a few of Hong Kong's more pressing problems on to the screen: over-crowding, poverty, refugees, and worries about China.
There are, too, the glamorous invaders from Hollywood who see Hong Kong as another exotic backdrop where two hearts might beat as one.
Candice Bergen has been there starring in Oliver's Story, the sequel to Love Story. Where's the real Hong Kong gone? ' she asks.
