The famous Log Cabin technique which uses strips of fabric can be used to make beautiful cushions and quilts by machine.
The pattern has been a firm favourite, both in this country and in America, for generations. The arrangement of dark strips on one side of the central patch and light on the other has given rise to a tradition that the central patch represents the hearth, and the light and dark sides are the fire-light and shadow. The finished squares can be arranged in a number of ways and many have traditional names such as Straight Furrow or Barnraising.
