Looks back... 100 programmes made by more than 100 groups and individuals - from all parts of the community. Some of them return to talk about why they wanted 'their own say in their own way' on subjects ranging from man-powered flight to cystitis, and dossers to transexuals. They'll be talking to Chris Dunkley, television critic of the Financial Times, about what they achieved with their programmes, and he'll be adding reactions of his own.

Peace or war... Two hundred years ago the House of Commons met for a decisive debate - at stake, whether or not the rebel colonists would remain British.

Tonight Robert McKenzie and Robert McNeil take a step back in time, and take TV with them, to understand what was happening in Britain - on the brink of war - and the momentous events in America - on the brink of independence.

From the House of Commons of 1776, they introduce:
The parliamentary debate between Lord North, the Prime Minister; Gen. Conway, Chief of Staff; Charles Fox; Edmund Burke; George III

An interview with film reports from both sides of the Atlantic include Donald MacCormick afloat with the British Army sailing to attack New York. Richard Lindley with the new, and successful, American Army. John Swinfield in Bristol where the loyalist refugees, forced to flee America, are returning home. James Hogg in Germany where Britain is buying mercenaries for £7 each.
