The Blues Accordin' to Lightnin' Hopkins
Four years ago this month Martin Luther King was assassinated; this week a book by James Baldwin is published: No Name in the Street, a passionate statement on that event and the problems of being black in the States.
Tonight's film features one of the greatest living blues musicians, Lightnin' Hopkins, playing and singing amongst his fellow blacks in Houston, Texas; but it also captures the strength, sadness and patience of the race we have since seen fighting for their rights.

The Symbols of Life I Knew Best
William Scott on the pots and pans and kitchen tabletops that are one of the main sources of inspiration for his painting.
Eighty-nine years old, a major British painter, yet scarcely known to the vast public, Scott is the subject of an important retrospective exhibition opening this week at the Tate Gallery, London.
