World War II in Europe ended more than 25 years ago. Yet the nightmare of the Nazi regime remains a memory of horror to people both inside Germany and in the world outside.

How could it all have happened? Why were the German people loyal to Adolf Hitler - the man who led them to war, mass murder and destruction? How did he win the large majority of the German people over to his cause? Tonight's film, made by a German television team for German audiences, tries to answer those questions.
