This week's programme in the series on Man and Science Today.

Perpetual summer for Britain, 'rain on the desert,' warm seas at the Poles. These are some of the hopes held out by scientists who are trying to alter our weather. But they are not so much more fantastic than the achievements already within our grasp, the computers that generate weather maps without being told the weather, the sound-waves that can pin-point turbulent air. Already American physicists claim to have tamed a hurricane, and foresee weather forecasts for three months ahead. The next decade will see a revolution in our understanding of the weather. Will it produce a Golden Age, or, if misapplied, the ultimate weapon of terror?

The last in a series of six programmes in which Robert Erskine seeks to recapture the life and events of ancient times.

Splendid temples, baths, and forums grew up to adorn the Roman city of 'Lepcis Magna' on the Libyan coast; and the theatre - or the horrors of the amphitheatre - provided the citizens with entertainment.
Roman civic magnificence was traditionally the gift of private benefactors, so that every public building bore inscriptions to commemorate its founder.
