Three programmes exploring the richness and complexity of Latin
America's music and poetry, much of which remains largely unknown in this country.
1: In the Wake of Vasco de Gama
When Portugal's ships sailed the great oceans towards America, her poets celebrated the epic journey, but the colonisation of Brazil dwarfed even their expectations. Here Africa, Indian America and Europe met; out of the encounter emerged an extraordinary new music and a new poetry. It was sometimes tragic, sometimes angry, sometimes full of hope, for it echoed with different memories and looked to a future that could embrace them all. Producers Mark Troop and Mike Gonzalez FACTSHEET: send sae to [address removed]
