Bruckner's lyrical and rarely heard second symphony opens the Proms celebration of the composer's centenary from the Royal Albert Hall, London. Gennadi Rozhdestvensky, former chief conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra, is joined by his wife for a performance of Stravinsky's ebullient piano concerto, and introduces the Proms to a colourful and quirky suite he has drawn from film music by Alfred Schnittke.
