In this fifth programme on the music of American composer George Russell , Ian Carr begins with a piece recorded in 1960 which caused Gunther Schuller to exclaim: "Stratusphunk! My God, it's a masterpiece."
Moving on to 1962 and the album The Outer View, singer Sheila Jordan describes how Russell came to make an extended arrangement of "You are my sunshine".

Auschwitz, recalls her persecution by the Nazis. 1: Breslau
"Our activities certainly did not conform to the general passivity of the few people who had so far escaped deportation."
Pretending to be French factory girls, Anita and her sister Renate tried to make a run for it. Renate had already boarded the train when the Gestapo arrested Anita.
