In the first of three programmes,
Christopher Stembridge plays the 1534 organ of Arezzo Cathedral in Tuscany and introduces his performances of music by Marc Antonio Cavazzoni and Girolamo Cavazzoni , featuring the first Italian publication of organ music.

In this fifth programme on the music of American composer George Russell , Ian Carr begins with a piece recorded in 1960 which caused Gunther Schuller to exclaim: "Stratusphunk! My God, it's a masterpiece."
Moving on to 1962 and the album The Outer View, singer Sheila Jordan describes how Russell came to make an extended arrangement of "You are my sunshine".

Tommy Pearson jigs away to the fiddle and pipes as he finds out why so many young people are rediscovering the traditions of folk music. He talks to
Kathryn Tickell and to Luke Daniels and Carlene Anglim , both winners of the Radio 3 Young Tradition award.

Pretending to be French factory girls, Anita and her sister Renate tried to make a run for it. Renate had already boarded the train when the Gestapo arrested Anita.
