The Old Hall Manuscript
This collection, made about the time of the Battle of Agincourt, remains the most important manuscript of English liturgical music before the Reformation. Today's programme includes a sanctus by Henry V or his father, pieces by musicians attached to the Chapel Royal and two motets by the greatest composer of the age John Dunstable.

In 1951 Kathleen Ferrier sang the part of Orfeo in Gluck's opera in a production by Netherlands Opera. The recent discovery of a recording made live at the time has led to that performance being transferred to long-playing records. John Steane introduces the opera and discusses in general the art of Kathleen Ferrier as well as her performances in the role of Orfeo - a part she made very much her own in the years immediately after the war.
