Eight hundred miles off the west coast of Ireland a small aircraft was hit by lightning, leaving pilot Werner Soehlmann with no long-range radio, no navigational equipment and very little fuel. Michael Buerk introduces some more stories of real-life rescues including reconstruction of the difficult task a Nimrod from RAF Kinloss in Scotland had trying to find Soehlmann and his plane.
Also featured is the story of a mountain bike accident in an isolated area of the Sussex Downs at the Chalk Pit, Offham just outside of Lewes in East Sussex. Although two of Martin Back's companions were doctors, they had no medical equipment with them and Back was fighting for his life.
Juliet Morris provides the third of five reports on the London Helicopter Emergency Service. This week's film - and it is not a reconstruction but the actual events recorded as they happened - covers a call to the scene of a motorbike accident on one of London's busiest roads in the rush hour.
