The third and final film
I in this series that has penetrated the unspoilt natural habitats of North
America is subitled The Bandit and the Builder. The narrator is
Bob Peck.
The bandit is the resourceful racoon, a looter and a loner with a facial stripe like a robber's mask. The builder is the beaver, an industrious animal that is constantly busy constructing dams and caringfor the family. It has a positive effect on the habitat, since its eleborate dams cause silting which in turn creates fertile meadows.
These two contrasting mammals usually manage to live separate lives, but their paths cross in the broad-leaved woodlands of southern Canada.
They live in peaceful harmony until a dispute over ownership bring the bandit and the builder into confrontation.

This month viewers are asked to help identify the person who killed pensioner Shirley Leach on Thursday 6 January this year. Shirley was on her way home after visiting her daughter in hospital when she was attacked. She'd caught the bus to Bury Interchange and was waiting for her connection at about 9.20pm when she visited the ladies toilet. Her body was found a few hours later. A man wearing a flat cap, around 40-50 years old was seen near the toilets several times that evening.
