The Rt Rev David Sheppard , Bishop of Liverpool, gives the 12th in this series of annual lectures before an invited audience at the Royal Society of Arts in London. The Other Britain
DAVID SHEPPARD describes 'the other Britain' as those city areas where poverty and unemployment are realities. He knows them well as he has spent over 30 years working there, first as a clergyman then as bishop.
Tonight he asks everyone in 'comfortable' Britain - as he calls it - to stand in the shoes of the people in that other Britain. He explains why attitudes must change, why politicians must alter their policies and why the Christian Church must become involved. He finds in Liverpool and elsewhere a dangerous alienation between governors and governed.
