June 1900. As Major Matt Lewis rides into Peking with a detachment of marines, he is appalled to see a British missionary killed by men wearing the red-patched robes of the Boxer rebels. Within a few days isolated riots have escalated into open war against the city's foreign legations. In the first of three thrillers for the Easter holiday, Richard Johnson plays Jonas Wilde of the British Secret Service, an expert eliminator of potential enemies. Tired of his work, he seeks an early retirement and marriage to his patient girlfriend. Nevertheless, his superior pressures him into a final mission - to deal with a Czech scientist defecting to the West who is being held by the CIA at a country house. But this assignment reveals a tangled web of cross and doublecross that leads Jonas to wonder just whose side he is really working for.
