2.40 Language in Action What's in a Word?
This film looks at three examples of the ways emotively ' loaded ' words can be used: a recent advertising campaign; words with a sexist bias; the use of the word ' treason ' during the Falklands crisis.

Introduced by Johnny Morris and TERRY NUTKINS. It's the SCOOP of the year! Johnny and Terry have Just returned from Spain where they've been filming the baby giant panda in Madrid Zoo. It's the first time the zoo has allowed anybody outside Spain to see the baby, which was born in September. Panda births in captivity are very rare and the baby has had to be treated with great care. The biological director of Madrid Zoo, Dr Cehna, says: ' We would like Animal Magic viewers to be the first people abroad to see our baby giant panda, as a gesture from us to the children of Britain.'

Five screenplays by ALAN BLEASDALE 3: Shop thy Neighbour featuring
Michael Angelis as Chrissie Todd with Julie Walters as Angie and Jean Boht as Miss Sutcliffe
Snowy's death and the inquiry into the Malloy affair mean a rough day for both sides of the counter. For Chrissie and his wife Angie, with their dole stopped, it means a showdown - this, after all, was going to be ' her' time.
The easy going Chrissie at war with his wife, as played by the ever more impressive Michael Angelis and Julie Walters , it was a war fought tcith machine guns and sharp knives. (the GUARDIAN) Grimly and vividly comic, played with a violent and shocking intensity.

with David Dimbleby
With the General Election probably less than a year away and British politics at its most volatile in living memory, DAVID DIMBLEBY presents the first of a new series on politics inside and outside Westminster. With the help of the BBC computer, he will be analysing the polls, economic forecasts and by-election results which will increasingly dominate the political world of 1983. Bill Kerr Elliott and Stephen Bradshaw will be reporting from the grassroots. And there will be a regular look at the lighter side of the political process, this week from Simon Hoggart. This week's programme includes an interview with The Chancellor of the Exchequer, The Rt hon Sir Geoffrey Howe , MP
