Presented by Fred Emery
When Opren was launched in Britain it was described to the public as a breakthrough in the treatment of arthritis. But last August the drug was withdrawn when it became clear that death could be one of its side-effects. Tonight and next week Panorama investigates the fatal errors that surrounded the tragedy.
1: Suppressing the Evidence
Tom Mangold 's investigation this week shows how Opren's manufacturers made claims for the drug that weren't justified by their research; how evidence of its adverse side-effects was withheld; and how further crucial evidence that Opren might kill was not acted upon until it was too late.
