A series of five programmes 2: Class
Britain's middle class never really ' made it'. They never took control of the country as happened in France or Germany. Instead they settled down to enjoy the delights of the countryside, sent their children to public schools and distanced themselves from industry and commerce. Was this the real reason Britain fell behind its competitors? Today however the middle class is changing. New middle class groups are emerging which will determine the country's future.
The beautiful Vale of Belvoir in Leicestershire is the setting for this story of ' class'.
