A selection of feature films directed by the master of suspense
starring Tallulah Bankhead
with William Bendix, Walter Slezak, Mary Anderson, John Hodiak
Life, death, and expertly orchestrated tension aboard an open boat bobbing in the dreary Atlantic wastes after a World War Two U-boat attack. The John Steinbeck story allows for some courageous - for the period-characterisations. There's a suitably flamboyant performance from Tallulah Bankhead as a cynical newshen, and an ingenious trick by the master to work in his customary signature-appearance. He doesn't bob up as a mermaid, either.
