A documentary tracing the 44-year career of one of Hollywood's legends. The daughter of a sharecropper, Ava Gardner had a real-life reputation as a good-time girl and a hard-luck wife. She divorced her first two husbands - film star
Micky Rooney and jazz band leader Artie Shaw - after only a year of marriage. She toyed with eccentric millionaire Howard Hughes and, in the late 1940s, married Frank Sinatra. That marriage ended in 1953. Yet despite her personal setbacks, the career of "the queen with the soul of a peasant" flourished. By the time she died in London in January 1990, she had made more than 50 films.

White Bird Featherless
Siobhan Davies's mystical work, with a musical score by Gerald Barry, was created for and performed by her own company. Its title comes from an old riddle, and the piece is full of camouflage and double meaning.
