One of France's most adventurous choreographers, Maguy Marin's modern version of this popular ballet is more West Side Story than classical ballet. Filmed on location among the grey high-rise estates of Lyon, it tells the story of sad, old Dr Coppelius and his automaton doll Coppelia. A femme fatale in blonde wig and high heels, Coppelia is the star of Coppelius's home movies. She soon attracts the attention of street-wise Franz who hangs around the estate, and the jealousy of his girlfriend Swanilda.

Performed by Lyon Opera Ballet with the Orchestra of the Lyon Opera conducted by Kent Nagano.

Pulling the plug on the festive season, Christmas Hell talks to people about their sense of despair at seeing cards go on sale in August; the madness of shopping on Christmas Eve; the tension of the family gathering; the expression of gratefulness you try to contrive as you unwrap yet another pair of socks and the sigh of relief when finally it's all over.
