The Mother of Parliaments is a sham, a victim of badly-drafted laws, a home for backbenchers only interested in personal preferment, affected by the familiarity of civil servants with a government in power for many years, and increasingly troubled by European law-making.

Recently divorced from her abusive husband, Grace Kelly struggles to balance a job at an oil refinery, motherhood and being single again. The first episode includes a guest appearance by John Goodman.
TonyMarchant's drama is the first of six conceivedforthe television studio, rather than the more usual mixture of sets and location scenes.
It is about the destructive potential of words, and of the use of language for deceitful purposes - privately and professionally - as well as what Marchant describes as "people trying to communicate the truth without deception".
A housewife purveys sexual fantasy over the telephone, her husband works in a heritage museum and a young man uses the phone sex line as a way out of his isolation. Eventually the three meet, with violent results.
Since the play deals largely with sex, it contains much strong language.
