"As far as my social life is concerned, the Metro is a no-go area. I think I'd look so much better sat in an XR2," says one young driver wistfully in the first programme of Nicholas Barker's sequel to Signs of the Times. Barker has applied the same style to this chronicle of British motorists that he used with his tongue-in-cheek series on perceptions of taste in the British home. The result is five films featuring the cars, the thoughts, the dreams and the anxieties of 70 drivers.
This first programme, It Gets You Out of the House, gives seven young drivers the chance to express their feelings about their first car.
