Not the kind of artist to make comebacks: since his first hit in 1971 with Your Song, Elton John has never gone away. But was a particularly good year for him: a nightmarish legal tussle with the tabloid press had ended with personal victory, and his album Sleeping with the Past yielded a string of hit singles.

This solo performance, broadcast live on MTV in June 1990, consists of unadorned versions of hits old and new including Sacrifice, Sad Songs, Tiny Dancer, Daniel and Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me.

The Scar
Second of three programmes by film-maker Mireille Dumas. "The story went.... sex, man, baby, abortion, death, nightmare." That's how Gina, serving 16 years in prison for killing her lover, describes the vicious circle of her experience. Left at the mercy of an abusive father when her mother died,
Gina had attempted suicide and had a child by the age of 15. In this remarkably frank and sensitive French documentary, Gina examines the motives for her crime of passion.
