Benazir Bhutto has overcome resistance, not just within the web of Pakistan politics but within her own family, to become the leader of the world's s largest Islamic state.
Yet she must face a further challenge from her younger brother, at present in prison but already favoured by many simply because he is a man. He would also guarantee the continuation of the dynastic
Bhutto name, established by her executed Prime Minister father
Zulfiqar Ali , whereas Benazir's children take the name of her husband, AsifZardari.
This profile of Benazir Bhutto looks at the intertwined nature of her political and family life in an unstable society. She is proud of her achievement" as one who rose against the prejudices of a male-dominated society to carve out a place for herself," but observes that "for my father politics was a passion. Spent Forces
Four ex-soldiers face life back in civvy street with different degrees of optimism in a film examining how they cope with this dramatic change from the ordered life of the forces.
Sergeant Kevin Cole is a single parent who, six months after leaving the army, is still living out of a suitcase at his mother's house. "A lot of firms are scared of taking on ex-forces personnel, he says. "They see us all as being totally regimental-type people who are not prepared to learn."
Sergeant Major Terry Royce has been tempted by a security job, even though he had been determined to avoid this type of career, and Major Charles Blackmore lands a job at a merchant bank.
Less certain of the future is Corporal Lois Burgoo , whose wife is convinced that he was forced out of the army because of racism. Now they find that the insecurity resulting from his decision to leave the force has put their marriage under strain. Director Ian Levison
