Ingmar Bergman 's ravishing production of Mozart's pantomime-opera is regarded as one of the finest filmed operas.
Shot in a replica of the 18th-century Drottningholm Theatre, Bergman's staging uses traditional techniques and scenery to highlight the pantomime fun of a prince rescued from a dragon, deceived by a wicked queen and subjected to trial by ordeal to win the hand of the beautiful princess. Sung in Swedish with English subtitles.

As we look back on a passing year, Bangalore newspaper editor E R Sethuram reflects on a turbulent decade and wonders whether he was right when he decided ten years ago to draw back from his contemplation of taking on the saffron robe of a holy man.
