Aspirin. Tense nervous headache? Three thousand years ago a popular cure was trepanation - a hole drilled through the skull. The ancient Egyptians used clay crocodiles and the Romans tried shocks from electric fish. Today's answer is likely to be aspirin. More than seven million a week are taken in the UK.

Fifth of a six-part documentary series in which UK citizens compare their work with that of a counterpart from the EC.
Teachers. Malcolm Hope and Nicole Miguel are teachers with the same aims but with very different methods - resulting from the contrast between education in the UK and France. They explore these differences as they shadow each other's work at large secondary schools in Oxfordshire and Bordeaux.

The last in a season of films by the late Denis Mitchell.
Through this look at a year in the life of the Norfolk countryside and its inhabitants, Denis Mitchell presents a lament on the state of the nation in the mid-70s.
Simultaneously beautiful and subversive it sets the apparent serenity of Norfolk life against the contemporary doom and gloom of newspaper headlines. Their litany of unemployment figures and IMF deliberations suggests there is something profoundly rotten at the core. The interjections of politicians of the day are a reminder that nothing really changes.

Texas Saturday Night
A show as big as the Lone Star State this is an epic voyage through the wildest state in the union - from the honkytonks and dancehalls to the hill country and burning deserts; from big cities to towns so tiny they're not even on the map. A departure from the style of Arena's previous TV nights, this programme takes the form of one continuous film with three intermissions: the Potter's
Wheel of the 1990s - Texas style. The guide for the evening is Texas's only Jewish retired country singer turned detective - Kinky Friedman. In the spirit of his mystery novels, he goes on a quest deep into the heart of Texas to find out what makes it so darn different from everywhere else. The performers encountered along the way include six times all-round world champion rodeo rider Larry Mahan. the last of the singing cowboys Red River Dave , blues guitarist Jimmie Vaughan (recently returned from his tour with Eric Clapton ) and the Grey Ghost, at 87 the oldest bluesman in America. World famous country singer Willie Nelson rubs shoulders with the likes of Armadillo Sam, doyen of the armadillo racing circuit, cowboy humorist Ace Reid , guitarist Joe Ely and singer/songwriter Lyle Lovett . They all play their part in a typical Texas Saturday night. Director Anthony Wall
