In the depths of winter sporting fishermen resort to spinning yarns about their exploits. Every bit as important as the fish they caught are the people met and the places visited.
During last season
Dan Cherrington fished on waters as far apart as the western United States, Ireland and France as well as on England's most famous and expensive trout stream. Sometimes Country File cameras were there to discover that not every fishing story is an exaggeration and that despite worries about pollution and poaching, there is still some wonderful sport to be found.

DNA in the Dock
On 5 February 1987, Vilma Ponce was found stabbed to death in a run-down apartment in the Bronx. A spot of dried blood on a watch provided a DNA 'fingerprint' of the suspect. But instead of an easy conviction, genetic fingerprinting itself was put on trial. Legal expert Robin White , from Dundee
University, examines the doubts now surrounding this previously unchallenged tool of forensic science.
Islam and the Temple of Um Western science and civilisation have been based on the pursuit of knowledge for its own sake. For Islam this is unacceptable: scientists must put ethics first and knowledge second.

A celebration of the work of Samuel Beckett.
Krapp's Last Tape with Patrick Magee and Eh Joe with Jack MacGowran.
Both these actors were, until their deaths, the outstanding performers of Samuel Beckett 's plays and his own favourites. He had heard
Magee's 'cracked voice' on radio and wrote the part of Krapp especially for him. And Jack MacGowran 's extraordinary battered face became the perfect emblem for Beckett's solitary figure in a bleak and relentless world. Eh Joe, the first play Beckett wrote specifically for television, was made in 1966 and Krapp's Last Tape, written in 1958 was performed for television in 1972.
