One of the great literary figures of the century, Samuel Beckett, died in December. During the next two weeks, Beckett's life and work are celebrated in a season of classic performances made over the years for the BBC in close collaboration with the author himself. They feature many of his favourite interpreters including Patrick Magee, Billie Whitelaw and Jack MacGowran. Tonight's opening programme presents extracts from Beckett's prose and radio plays, and a chance to see the memorable performances of Max Wall and Leo McKern in Act 2 of Beckett's best-known play, Waiting for Godot.
