It's time to do a number of important jobs in the, garden. Sow exotics like courgettes and also a range of vegetables outside to keep a full pot of homegrown produce throughout the year. Most herbaceous plants need support; there are several methods, some more discreet than others and, for a brighter selection of pot plants later in the year, sow seeds now.

Hugh O'Shaughnessy,
Latin America correspondent of The Observer, introduces Allan Frankovich's acclaimed three-part investigation of the United States's involvement in Central America. 2: El Salvador
In a country the size of Wales and with a population of five-and-a-half million, an estimated 70,000 people have now 'disappeared' or lost their lives in ten years of vicious civil war.
Constructing his film around such incidents of international infamy as the assassination of Archbishop Romero and the murder of four American churchwomen, Frankovich deploys newsreel and interview to devastating effect. He elicits testimony across the political spectrum - from left-wing guerrillas, through State Department spokesmen, to the country's notorious security forces - leaving a picture of a small and once dynamic nation awaiting the assumption to power, next month, of the right-wing ARENA party. Produced and directed by ALLAN FRANKOVICH
Television presentation by LINDSAY DAVIES
The last word on world events analysed by Peter Snow and Donald MacCormick.
Jazz Types
Second of six programmes. Tommy is only one of five saxophonists in the programme, as his guests are the 29th Street Saxophone Quartet from New York. It used to be unusual for saxes to play without rhythm section accompaniment, but sax quartets are now frequently heard in jazz and the 29th Street are among the best.
Tommy joins the Quartet for two specially-composed pieces; and a Charlie Parker tune becomes the vehicle for an old-fashioned cutting contest.
