Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra led by Terje Tonnesen

The second of three programmes recorded in St David's Hall, Cardiff, featuring the brilliant Soviet conductor Mariss Jansons, who became Chief Conductor of the Oslo Philharmonic in 1979, since when the orchestra has become one of Europe's best. Widely acclaimed in both concerts and recordings, their UK visit earlier this year was eagerly awaited, particularly after their highly successful BBC Promenade concerts last summer.

Tonight they play two movements from Prokofiev's imaginative score for the ballet Romeo and Juliet and Beethoven's Symphony No 2 in D major, Op 36.
Introduced by Brian Kay , who also discusses with Mariss Jansons the three orchestras in the series and the music in tonight's programme.
