Christmas is a time of homecoming, of family reunion. But many have no family, no home. The wind-blasted doorway is their refuge, a bottle of cheap booze their only warmth.
Where do they turn? Pilsdon, a small community in an Elizabethan manor in rural Dorset, is the refuge many head for.
Bob had two heart attacks wandering on the streets; Peter, a criminal, suffered appalling violence; Seamus drank meths; Henry was given five years to live. They all made it as far as Pilsdon. Here they find sanctuary for a while.

An exhibition of 60 years of the New Yorker opens today at the Victoria and Albert
Museum, London - a celebration of the distinctive art and graphic style of America's foremost literary magazine.
For six decades it has been the proving ground for writers like John Updike and J. D. Salinger and critics such as Pauline Kael. But last year the New Yorker's august tradition came under threat - from a new owner who appointed a new editor, only the third man to hold this post. Review went to
Manhattan to talk to some of the New Yorker's most distinguished contributors - John Updike , Ved Mehta , Jay McInerney and cartoonist Ed Koren about the magazine's unique place in American culture.

AU the King's Men
During the summer of 1943, the SOE'S largest network in occupied France, collapsed and more than 400 of the French Resistance were arrested. At the centre of this disaster stood the figure of Henri Dericourt , one of SOE's most trusted agents.
However, Dericourt had also been working for German Intelligence.
Following the publication of a new book (All The King's Men by Robert Marshall ), which examines the events surrounding the collapse of SOE's network, Timewatch have updated this programme, originally transmitted in 1986. Recent evidence confirms that the catastrophe in wartime France was really the result of an extraordinary British espionage operation. Narrated by John Woodvine Editor ROY DAVIES
