Lleyn Peninsula
Pop videos, powerplays,
British and American charts, all delivered not just at high speed but at high altitude among the mountains of Snowdonia and the Lleyn Peninsula in north Wales. Framed by this scenic splendour, presenters Tony Baker and Jenny Powell wrestle with the Welsh language. Goodness knows where they'd have ended up if an interpreter hadn't helped them find
Llanystumdwy, Llithfaen and LIanberis, not to mention the few places that don't begin with 'LI'. The hills, apart from being alive with the sound of rock music, yield a rich crop of curiosities from bloodcurdling legends to a llama farm.

Public opinion was outraged by the Hungerford massacre, and the Home Secretary has promised legislation to curb guns. But cars kill more people than guns - last year 16 people died on Britain's roads every day - and yet the drivers of these lethal weapons often get off with a year's ban and a small fine. In British law there is no distinction between the careless driving that damages a car, and that which takes a life. In the Brass Tacks studio, John Harrison asks if there should be stiffer penalties for every driver who kills.

The Rose-Red City
(Jean Louis Bruckhardt 1784-1817)
Presented by David Drew I was without protection in the midst of a desert where travellers had never before been seen; and a closer examination of these works would have excited suspicion that I was a magician.
In the mountains of Arabia a secret valley conceals one of the most stunning and fabulous archaeological sites in the world. Legendary
Petra, 'the rose-red city, half as old as time', was carved from the rock more than
2,000 years ago.
In 1812 Burckhardt, a young Swiss explorer searching for the source of the River Niger in Africa, stumbled upon the incredible remains of this city, lost to western eyes since the time of the Crusades. David Drew tells the story of the rediscovery of this remarkable site and of the courage and determination shown by one man in conditions of great personal danger.
