High Moon
The Earth and the Moon travel together round the Sun, but the movements of the Moon itself are not so straightforward as might be thought. Patrick Moore and Dr Ron Maddison discuss the whole question of how the Moon moves, how it affects the tides, and why it is very slowly receding from the Earth, at the same time slowing down the Earth's rate of rotation.

To the boarding houses of Blackpool, buffeted by howling winds and high seas, come 700 hopeful couples with one thing in common - a passion for dancing.
Competing in the most important Ballroom Dancing Championships of the year are a 6ft 4in plumber, a 56-year-old gas fitter, a well-proportioned secretary from the Ministry of Defence, two shop assistants from a smart
London store, and a teenage couple still at school.
They're all tough, fit and determined; prepared to sacrifice everything for a sport that can cost well over E3,000 a year.
It is an evening of excitement, humour and high drama. Narrator Ian Holm

Vienna Now:
Introductory Film
Every summer, the Almeida Theatre in Islington plays host to one of Europe's most adventurous music festivals.
This year its main theme is the music of Vienna today, and the city's leading composers, FRIEDRICH CERHA , KURT SCHWERTSIK and HEINZ KARL GRUBER , are in residence at the theatre.
Despite its reputation for conservatism, Vienna was the crucible for many of the 20th century's most radical developments in music and the arts.
Michael Berkeley explores the appealing and often ironic sounds of Vienna today with some of its most important artistic figures.

An Eisler Evening
Live from the Almeida
Theatre, London
The second visit is devoted to the music of Hanns Eisler , one of the fathers of modem
Viennese music.
A quarter of a century after his death, he is beginning to receive recognition as one of the most original and prolific composers to emerge in modern Germany. Friend and collaborator of BERTOLT
BRECHT, pupil Of SCHOENBERG, fugitive from Nazi Germany, deported from America by the notorious Un-American
Activities Committee, he was welcomed in 1950 to the new
German Democratic Republic as an honoured public figure. Tonight's programme features his exquisitely crafted film music and songs, characterised by that brittle irony which can only come from 20th-century Germany. Michael Berkeley sets the scene for an unusual evening's entertainment with the composer's son, Georg Eisler , friends and pupils. Heinz Karl Gruber (chansonnier)
