The weekly look at the world of information technology with Lesley Judd and Fred Harris
If you book an airline ticket you're likely to be in the hands of a computer until you pick up your luggage at the other end. Micro Live investigates the system. When the Torrey Canyon sank in the English Channel 20 years ago this week, the oil it spilled caused great damage to the coast and to wildlife. If it happened today, a computer model would be used to speed up decisions on how to fight the disaster. Micros have become a familiar sight in our schools, but they may become as familiar in the nursery. Studio director DAVE THOMAS Producers

Luciano Berio's 1968 masterpiece with Simon Rattle conducting Electric Phoenix and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra leader Felix Kok

'A piece about a symphony and about myths' is Simon Rattle's description of this revolutionary work.
Luciano Berio was born in 1925. For the past 30 years he has been the dazzling experimenter of contemporary music, extending brilliantly the range of both instruments and voices. His Sinfonia has already acquired the status of a 20th-century masterpiece. It is literally a new kind of 'sounding-together' for eight voices and a large symphony orchestra. Berio and Rattle introduce this complete performance, specially designed for television.

The arts and media magazine presented by Russell Davies including:
Architecture: the Big Bang has already changed the architectural face of much of London. With the City's centre spreading, the area around Spitalfields market now faces being torn between the redevelopers and the conservationists. This conflict calls into question our whole notion of what city life should be, and how architects should serve and preserve it. Leon Krier and Richard MacCormac are among those architects facing the dilemma of how to finance redevelopment without destroying the community.
Music: Olivier Messiaen , France's greatest living composer, is spending this week at the Royal Academy of Music working with student performers and new composers such as George Benjamin. Paul Crossley reports on the festival and talks to Messiaen about the experience of passing on his insights to a new generation. Books: the man behind The Face on the Cutting Room
