If you book an airline ticket you're likely to be in the hands of a computer until you pick up your luggage at the other end. Micro Live investigates the system. When the Torrey Canyon sank in the English Channel 20 years ago this week, the oil it spilled caused great damage to the coast and to wildlife. If it happened today, a computer model would be used to speed up decisions on how to fight the disaster.
