BBC2 Invitation Pairs Crown Green Bowling Tournament From a record entry of 64 top county bowlers, just eight pairings have survived the opening rounds to reach the quarter-finals. Among the early casualties were defending champions Eddie Hulbert and Tommy Johnstone , beaten in their opening match.
Now in its sixth year, Top Crown offers record prize money of E7,200 - with E2,000 going to the winners.
In this evening's first quarter-final, Lancashire's Vernon Lee and Jim Hadfield , with no less than six pairs titles to their credit, bid for their first Top Crown title against
Greater Manchester's
Jim Collen and Ingham Gregory - the 1984 NatWest Champions. The first of seven programmes introduced by Richard Duckenfleld from the GEC Club, Stretford, Manchester.
