(YEHUDI MENUHIN ) Ravi Shankar , India's musical ambassador, is one of the world's leading virtuoso instrumentalists. He was born in Varanasi, the holy city of India in 1920. He showed early, unusual ability in both music and dance; and spent many years as pupil and disciple of India's great musician Ustad Allauddin Khan. After studies he embarked, first in India and then throughout the world, upon one of the most extraordinary careers in the history of contemporary music, which was particularly highlighted in the 1960s by his personal and professional association with The Beatles.
In this rare television interview recorded especially for BBC2, Ravi Shankar talks to Marian Foster about his life and music.
