Harry Ferguson, who invented the modern tractor, was a pioneer of 20th-century farming technology. A determined Ulsterman, he persuaded Henry Ford to manufacture his invention. Following the dissolution of a handshake agreement with Ford, Ferguson was awarded millions of dollars compensation as a result of a protracted lawsuit.
Nonetheless, this tough businessman was also a compassionate visionary whose aim was the production of cheap food for the poor of the world.
