Harry Ferguson: Inventor

on BBC Two England

1884-1960
Harry Ferguson, who invented the modern tractor, was a pioneer of 20th-century farming technology. A determined Ulsterman, he persuaded Henry Ford to manufacture his invention. Following the dissolution of a handshake agreement with Ford, Ferguson was awarded millions of dollars compensation as a result of a protracted lawsuit.
Nonetheless, this tough businessman was also a compassionate visionary whose aim was the production of cheap food for the poor of the world.
Andy O'Mahony talks to Ferguson's biographer Colin Fraser, Henry Ford's biographer David Lewis, and a number of associates who worked with Ferguson. Producer ROBIN WYLIE BBC Northern Ireland
