A Candlelit Service for Advent Sunday from Salisbury Cathedral Tonight 1,000 people stand in a dark Cathedral, facing west. They await, as they do every year, the lighting of the first candle of Advent.
They hope that its light will grow into a blaze as the carols begin and the choir visits each dark corner of the Cathedral.
This recording of last year's service is introduced by Peter Firth.
