Rita Hayworth herself proposed that her husband Orson Welles should direct her in this bravura thriller about cross and double-cross among a party of rich folk on a yacht. Rita sported an unexpected short haircut and played a femme rather more fatale than usual - all in keeping with Welles's dazzling direction which included the classic final shootout in a hall of mirrors.

Dear Sir,
I have no choice but to resign from my position as Radio Times billings writer.
It has been a most rewarding experience but my heart is no longer in it.
My feelings can best be summed up by the immortal words of Marcel Marceau who said, after the Battle of Britain, 'This is the last programme in the above-named series'.
Yours, Mr Smith

Ivan Ivan Vaughan was only 35 when Parkinson's disease first afflicted him.
Ivan has spent the last seven years finding out more about the disease, by experimenting with the drug L-Dopa and using muscular effort to overcome the tremor in his limbs.
Earlier this year he invited Jonathan Miller to spend a week with him, to explore how he coped with the disease - whether jogging in the park, eating breakfast or playing snooker. The result is a fascinating and often amusing look at a little-understood illness. Film editor KRYSTYNA KAPLAN Horizon editor GRAHAM MASSEY Producer PATRICK UDEN o FEATURE: page 9
