Born in Athlone, Ireland, just 100 years ago on 14 June 1884, the great Irish tenor Count John McCormack's life covered a vast span in the history of singing.
In this programme Robert White recalls in song his hero and how his parents in New York taught him to sing, using 'John's recordings' - as his mother lovingly referred to the old 78s-as his yardstick.
Recorded on location at the Theatre Royal, Lincoln.

It's the end of the long road for Jonathan King as he reaches his final destination in the current series-Boston. It's no tea party though, as he takes a hectic tour around the New England city, meeting one of its newest television personalities, Angela Rippon , and talking exclusively to top film score composer, John Williams , whose credits include Star Wars, Jaws, E.T. and Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
Also a glimpse into the super-fashionable world of Yuppies - America's 'Sloane Rangers' and a chat with Motown great, Smokey Robinson.
