Concludes the short season of films starring Deanna Durbin, tonight with Charles Laughton
Laughton is in flamboyant mood as John Sheridan, noted footlight star, who is duped into helping an aspiring actress into a Broadway production. Deanna Durbin stars as the stage-struck waitress who eventually wins Sheridan's heart, and Franchot Tone is once again on hand as the romantically-inclined playwright.

On 19 July 1884, two sisters -Maud and Lilian Watson - played a game of tennis with a prize of a silver flower basket worth 20 guineas.
One hundred years later, Martina Navratilova hopes to win 190,000 in the fight to become Ladies' Champion of the greatest tournament in the world - Wimbledon.
Whoever wins, their name will join those of Suzanne Lenglen , Helen Wills Moody, Maureen Connolly , Margaret Court, Billie Jean King , and the many more inscribed on the winner's salver. From a reconstruction of that very first final in 1884, Peter Ustinov , Liza Goddard and Virginia Wade recall the triumphs of the game's immortals, in a celebration of the centenary of this famous championship.
