Born in Athlone, Ireland, just 100 years ago on 14 June 1884, the great Irish tenor Count John McCormack's life covered a vast span in the history of singing.
In this programme Robert White recalls in song his hero and how his parents in New York taught him to sing, using 'John's recordings' - as his mother lovingly referred to the old 78s-as his yardstick.
Recorded on location at the Theatre Royal, Lincoln.
