A natural history in six parts celebrating animals in action. 2: In Praise of God
Did swallows and martins sleep in bushes all winter? Were meat-eating wolves more intelligent than the red deer they hunted? What instinct led ducklings to water even when hatched by a hen? Could birdsong be played on a harpsichord? The first steps towards answering such puzzles came from naturalists whose view of the world was inspired by the Bible.
John Ray , a 17th-century parson, sought to describe and catalogue the 'treasures of the creation' from fen-land marsh to the clamorous seabird colonies of the Fame Islands. The Rev Gilbert White celebrated his God by discovering new animals and habits within the parish of Selbome. And the eccentric 'squire' Waterton explored the jungles of South America and enquired whether God had 'bungled' the design of the sloth!

Why do successive governments refuse to discuss the strange signals coming from Jupiter? Backache - are beansprouts the answer? Marilyn Monroe - alive and well and working in Woolworth's?
A Kick Up the Eighties completely ignores these questions and instead pokes its nose into other things.
Filmed entirely on location in a nudist camp.

Presented by Jim Garrison
On 6 August 1945 the first atomic bomb was exploded over Hiroshima. Since then the threat of nuclear destruction has hung over humanity like a sword of judgment. The shadow of the bomb falls on the innocent, the guilty, the powerless and those who try to intervene.
How do we resist the numbing evasions of cynicism, despair and apathy? In this programme JIM GARRISON , a Christian theologian from America, revisits the places already devastated by the bomb and finds among the tragic memories that faith and love endure.
