When asked what she would like to be remembered for, the novelist Mary Renault once replied: 'For getting it right'. For the many admirers of her historical novels, 'getting it right' was exactly what she did.
Last month Mary Renault died in her adopted country, South Africa. She was 78. A remote figure, she was always reluctant to speak about her life and work. She did, however, make one exception for her fellow writer, David Sweetman. The result is this film first shown in Omnibus in 1982. Film editor SAXON LOGAN
