To Be a Matador

The dream is the Mercedes, the private plane, endless senoritas; a rags-to-riches fairytale which every year lures thousands of poor young Spaniards to take up the muleta.
The reality is danger, doublecross, injury, heartbreak. The young matadors travel a hard road in a rented suit of lights, fighting rogue bulls in dusty village arenas, infamous as 'the rings of a bad death'. Only a very few succeed.
