Called up to serve in the infantry, Abram Games, a young graphic designer, was appalled at the unimaginative presentation of information on the barrack-room notice boards. Believing he could make it more visually attractive and entertaining, Private Games wrote a memo to the mighty War Office. To his surprise he soon found himself working there. During the next five years he rose to the rank of Captain, created nearly 100 posters and became one of Britain's leading designers.
